Rainforest Plum (Eugenia candolleana)
Rainforest Plum, also known as Cambuí Roxo or Cambuí Preto, is a rare and exotic fruit native to the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil. It is cherished for both its ornamental beauty and delicious fruit, making it a perfect addition to tropical gardens and fruit collections.
The fruit is small, round, and has smooth, glossy, deep purple to almost black skin when ripe. Its soft, juicy flesh offers a sweet and slightly tangy flavor, often compared to a mix of grape and plum with mild tropical notes. The fruit is typically enjoyed fresh but can also be used to make jams, jellies, and juices.
The tree itself is highly ornamental, with dark green, shiny leaves and a compact growth habit, usually reaching 2 to 4 meters in height. It produces small white flowers before fruiting and thrives in warm, humid climates with well-drained soil. Rainforest Plum is also a favorite for attracting birds and pollinators to the garden.
In addition to its delicious taste, Rainforest Plum contains antioxidants and vitamin C, making it a nutritious choice for fruit lovers.
